Naitec EES - Ready

EES READY

How to prepare your airport to the adoption of the EES effortlessly and seamlessly

The Entry Exit System (EES) is an automated computer system designed to register non-EU citizens each time they cross an external EU border: European Union member states must adopt the EES by October 2024.

The introduction of the EES will create some challenges for airports due to various factors, such as increased processing times, which could lead to longer lines and wait times, especially during peak periods.

Airports will need to invest in new infrastructure and technology to support the EES, such as biometric scanners, updated computer systems, and additional spaces to accommodate new processes. Additionally, there will be a need for training airport staff on the new system and procedures. This training period could temporarily reduce operational efficiency and require additional staff to manage the transition smoothly.

Implementing a standardized system across different member states and airports can also be complex: there may be inconsistencies in how the system is deployed and operated, leading to potential confusion and inefficiencies.

Airports must also ensure that the data collected is protected from breaches and misuse, adhering to strict data protection regulations.

Lastly, it is important to consider that the change might initially confuse or frustrate passengers, particularly those unfamiliar with biometric systems.

Addressing these challenges will require careful planning, investment, and coordination among airports, airlines, and government authorities to ensure a smooth transition to the EES.

We can assist you in preparing for the introduction of the EES system in the following ways:

Firstly, we'll conduct an assessment to analyze the type of passengers (EU / non-EU) that characterize the extra-Schengen traffic at your airport. This evaluation will help determine the appropriate sizing of EES kiosks, the need to introduce ABC eGates if they are not already present, and whether to adapt some of the existing ABC eGates for the EES.

Next, we'll support you in analyzing the areas and flows that need to be redefined based on the introduction of EES kiosks and any additional ABC eGates.

Following this, in accordance with the provisions of the Minister of the Interior once they are formalized, we will provide EES kiosks that comply with Frontex requirements, and if necessary, ABC eGates or hardware and software adjustments to existing ABC eGates.
